What Is Wet Cupping/Hijama

Wet Cupping also known as Hijama (in Arabic) is an ancient remedy dating back to the seventh century.

The aim of this treatment is to boost blood circulation and clean out the lymphatic system via controlled, supervised bleeding techniques or medicinal bleeding, where blood is drawn by local suction from a small skin incision.

What to expect in a typical Hijama session?

every Wet Cupping/Hijama session begins with a cupping treatment using glass fire cups.  Following a five to ten-minute massage cupping treatment, single use disposable cups are placed on specific meridian points on the patient’s back. A mild suction is created using a pump, cups are left for a few minutes to create a local anaesthesia effect.

The cups are then removed and superficial skin incisions are made with a small cupping scalpel/surgical blade. The cups are then reapplied and a second suction is performed leaving the cups on for a few minutes in order to draw out the toxic blood. This process may be repeated a few times.

Wet cupping is said to relieve congestion by taking out ‘bad’ blood allowing one’s body to create fresh, new blood.

What Is Craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive and hands-on approach to healing that focuses on the craniosacral system.

Your craniosacral system protects your brain and spinal cord, and consists of your skull, spinal column, sacrum, and associated tissues.

Closely related to osteopathy, craniosacral therapy is focused on improving the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal column..

Tension and imbalance in the craniosacral system can be caused by injury or illness. By using very gentle touch, the therapist assesses and gently manipulates the craniosacral rhythm to support the body’s natural abilities for self-healing.

What to Expect from Your Session

Your therapist will begin by exploring your health concerns and medical history to tailor the treatment to your needs. You’ll then lie comfortably on your back on a massage table, fully clothed. Using gentle touch, your therapist will massage areas around your neck, back, and hips to release tension and realign misalignments, promoting better circulation and wellbeing.

Known for its soothing nature, craniosacral therapy often induces deep relaxation or even sleep, encouraging your body to release tension and stress for natural healing.
